The injury suffered by Lamine Yamal in the last match against Leganes can prove to be a significant blow for FC Barcelona. The Catalans suffered significantly when the youngster was injured some weeks ago, and his presence in the line-up has been key for Hansi Flick since his arrival at the Blaugrana club.
With this injury, Barcelona will be without one of their best forwards for the upcoming crucial tie against Atletico Madrid. However, the Blaugranes are still trying to ensure he can return in time to help them win their first title of this season, the Spanish Super Cup, which will be played from January 8th to 12th in Saudi Arabia.
For this purpose, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Catalans are taking some very specific measures. For instance, since yesterday, they have been applying platelet-rich plasma to the affected area, which is a common technique to speed up recovery.
Furthermore, Yamal has also been wearing a special boot to immobilize his ankle and help him protect it from further shocks as much as possible.
As the club announced, the youngster is suffering from a grade 1 injury to his anterior tibiofibular ligament and is expected to remain on the sidelines for the next 3 to 4 weeks.
It remains to be seen whether these special measures will bear fruit and allow Yamal to get back to full fitness in time for the match against Athletic Club in the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup on January 8th.
However, Barcelona should not be taking any risks if there are any doubts about his recovery as Yamal has already suffered another injury in the same area quite recently, and the Catalan club needs to be very careful that this does not become a chronic issue for a player who is expected to spearhead their team’s attack for years to come.
