Barcelona open talks with representatives of Tottenham target Sergio Aguero

According to Sky Sports (h/t Express), Barcelona have made the first move in the transfer race for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, who is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Aguero, 32, is one of the greatest strikers of the modern era and one of the best ever to grace the Premier League. Having arrived at Manchester City in 2011 from Atletico Madrid, the Argentine has gone on to become their all-time leading goalscorer.

However, like all good things, Aguero’s time at the Etihad Stadium is coming to an end. Indeed, the veteran striker, who has struggled with fitness problems and game-time this season, sees his contract with the Cityzens run out when the 2020/21 term gets over. And the club has confirmed that there will be no extension offered, meaning Aguero will be a free agent this summer.

This has seen the striker generate lots of transfer interest heading into the summer with the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona all considering the possibility of swooping him away on a free transfer. And, Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be among the clubs keen on securing the 32-year-old striker’s signing. (h/t Express)

It has been claimed that Tottenham will not make Carlos Vinicius’ transfer permanent this summer, meaning we will need another striker to cover for Harry Kane. And Aguero, despite his recent fitness problems, remains an elite goalscorer, and could be a valuable short-term addition for us.

However, Barcelona seem to be leading the pursuit of the Argentine though, with the Catalan giants already opening initial talks with his representatives over a summer move. (h/t Express)

Aguero, who currently pockets £240,000-a-week with City, is said to be intent on signing for Barcelona as well, putting them in control of the transfer chase. (h/t Express)

It now remains to be seen if the 32-year-old does end up at Camp Nou or if there is a chance that Tottenham or any other club convince him otherwise.
