The recent game against Real Madrid was a massive challenge for Barcelona. Heading into the game, the Catalan giants had a clear mental hurdle to overcome following the loss to Inter Milan. However, this game provided Barcelona with the perfect opportunity to bounce back.

Ultimately, the Catalan giants managed to overcome their eternal rivals despite being 2-0 down at the start of the game. Through grit and determination, Barcelona came back to win the game with a 4-3 scoreline and go seven points clear at the top of the table.

Pau Cubarsi had to be taken off

Unfortunately for them, however, there were certain worrying signs for them to watch out for. In the second half, young Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi fell to the ground and seemed to be unable to continue, as Danish defender Andreas Christensen replaced him in the game.

While the focus remained on the game, that was still a worrying sign in regards to Pau Cubarsi. Considering just how vital he is to the team, an injury to him at this stage of the season could have proven to be crucial.

Barcelona can breathe a sigh of relief

Fortunately, however, the 18-year-old Barcelona defender does not have any injury at all. Instead, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, the player had a stomach-related issue, and this was confirmed by Hansi Flick after the match as well:

“He’s fine. He had a stomach issue and told us he could go for another 10–15 minutes in the second half.”

With this good news, Barça will be in high spirits following their massive victory in El Clásico. Fortunately, it would also mean that Cubarsi’s availability moving forward will likely not be a doubt, and the next game against Espanyol is one that he should be ready for.

Moreover, Alejandro Balde is now back in action as well, as he played a few minutes against Real Madrid. It was already known that he would not be starting the game before the match kicked off, but Barcelona will be glad to hear that they can count on him now.
