Ronald Araujo’s significance to the Barcelona back line has grown tremendously over the years.

Having arrived from Uruguayan side Boston River in 2017, the defender has quickly climbed up the ranks to cement himself as one of the most indispensable figures at Barcelona.

And now with Araujo regularly entrusted with the captain’s armband in Ter Stegen’s absence, it is safe to say the Blaugranes value their crown jewel in defense considerably.

Recently, rumors began circulating that Araujo had emerged as the number one transfer priority for Bayern Munich and that the player held a phone call meeting with Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel as a result.

While Araujo is undeniably a man in high demand, with a fair amount of European heavyweights eager to have him within their ranks, SPORT have come out to play down the speculations.

Araujo is committed to Barcelona

Indeed, according to the report, the information regarding the phone call was vehemently refuted by the Uruguayan’s entourage.

Meanwhile, sources close to Bayern also consulted them. The German club repudiated having carried out informal talks, claiming there was no basis behind the alleged phone call.

However, despite their interest, Araujo has shown wholehearted commitment to the Barcelona project, as is seen by his passion for the team whenever he represents the Blaugrana colors.

The €70 million-rated defender is intent on writing history in Catalonia. After fracturing his cheekbone against Atletico Madrid, he carried on playing and is set to participate against Girona with a face mask, which is indicative of his dedication towards Barcelona.

The player even turned down Manchester United in the past, in spite of the English side offering incredibly lucrative terms.

Araujo’s contract ties him down to Barça until 2026, and the club looks forward to seeing him stay for many more years. The €1 billion release clause attached to his contract is a sign of Barcelona’s desire to ward off any potential suitors.
