Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal is on his way to making history in football.

The youngster broke all sorts of records upon his breakthrough into the Barça first-team setup under Xavi Hernandez. Last season, he took things up a notch and established himself as the face of the team, leading the Catalans to the domestic treble under Hansi Flick.

And, if the 2025/26 La Liga opener against Mallorca was anything to go by, Lamine has no intentions of slowing down.

New season, new challenges

According to Mundo Deportivo, Lamine Yamal, having taken on the No. 10 shirt this season, has set himself new challenges: to score more goals and to take free-kicks and penalties.

It has already been spoken about how Hansi Flick wants the teenager to score more goals after he already bagged 18 last season. The teenager is embracing the challenge and wants to get more goals while also being ready to take on free-kick and penalty responsibilities.

The La Masia graduate has demonstrated his strong personality by not shying away from carrying the responsibility of Barça’s No. 10 at the tender age of 18.

The young superstar firmly believes he is ready to lead the team in this new season, as he showed in the first league match at Son Moix.

Starring display in Mallorca

In the absence of the injured Robert Lewandowski, Lamine stepped up in a big way. First, he assisted Raphinha for the opening goal, then he was involved in the move that ended with Ferran Torres’s goal.

But the crowning moment came late in the game, when Lamine went past three opponents cutting in from the right towards the edge of the box and produced a curling shot that flew into the top corner of the Mallorca goal to make it 3-0.

Lamine was determined to influence the game – he sought a goal persistently, shooting whenever he found space, took his first direct free-kick, which narrowly went over the crossbar, and dribbled whenever he could.

The Spanish international led the rankings at Son Moix in shots (9), shots on target (3), crosses (4) and completed dribbles (6).

More of the same can be expected as Lamine has no intentions of slowing down whatsoever.
