FC Barcelona continue to prove themselves as the team to beat in the UEFA Champions League as they defeated Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the first leg of the quarterfinals tie on Wednesday.
This was a special game for Robert Lewandowski as he faced his former club, and the Polish forward made this game memorable with a brace in the second half.
With these two goals, the Pole has taken his UCL goals tally to 11. As Mundo Deportivo has noted, the Barcelona superstar has created a unique record with these two strikes, becoming the only player to reach the 10-goal mark in the UCL with three different teams.
Lewandowski first scored 10 goals for Borussia Dortmund back in 2012-13, when Jurgen Klopp took his team right to the final, where they were defeated by Bayern Munich. Half of these 10 goals in that season came only against Real Madrid: 1 in a group stage game and 4 in the semi-final first leg.
The Pole also reached the 10-goal mark two times with Bayern Munich. The first time was in the 2019-20 season, when Hansi Flick won the treble with the Bavarian side, and his final UCL goals tally in that campaign stood at 15 goals. Then he repeated the feat in the 2021-22 season, when he scored 13 goals in total in the UCL.
Now, having scored 11 goals with Barcelona this season, the Pole has become the only player to score at least 10 goals in a single UEFA Champions League campaign with three different teams.
This record goes on to show the incredible career the Pole has had, and also the fact that he is still performing at a very high level despite being 36 years of age. Hopefully, he will be able to add some more goals to this tally before the end of this season.
