Barcelona have clear and obvious issues with regards to their striking role. The Catalans lack a proper finisher, and have several names in their list as signings.

All those who they have to occupy this position are either injured or incomplete strikers, like Memphis Depay. Despite having seven goals to his name, he has struggled in front of goal.

One name Barcelona have sought out for quite a while is Erling Haaland. The Norwegian is one of the most coveted footballers in Europe, and Barcelona strongly desire him.

He was seemingly close to extending his contract, but recent reports counter this. According to Fichajes, a Spanish sport outlet, the Dortmund striker has demanded to leave.

The 2021/22 season has been especially difficult for him. Haaland suffered a two month layoff and this meant he would miss crucial games. In his absence, his club was knocked out of the Champions League. This is rumoured to be the source of his desire to depart. He reportedly feels that a player of his calibre cannot be out this early into the tournament.

In addition to the failure with his club, Haland also sat and watched as his country was knocked out of the Qatar World Cup. They could not qualify for the playoffs, and he could only sit and watch as they failed to advance from the group.

Given his new found desire to leave next summer, many clubs will be on his radar. Barcelona are among them, as they have for quite some time. His market value is nearly €150 million, but he could be available for as less as €80 million in summer given his release clause. Even that, however, may be too much for the Catalans.

Other clubs such as Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain will closely monitor his situation.
