According to Mundo Deportivo, it has come to light that Barcelona’s new goalkeeper, Joan Garcia, is on the verge of receiving his first senior national team call-up for Spain.
The 24-year-old is expected to be included in Luis de la Fuente’s squad for Spain’s upcoming September international fixtures against Bulgaria and Turkey.
The official squad announcement is scheduled for August 29, just three days before the national team’s training camp kicks off on September 1.
This call-up would come just before the third matchday of the La Liga season, marking a major milestone in Garcia’s career.
Although Garcia has represented Spain at various youth levels, right from U17 to U21, and was part of the under-23 squad that won gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics, he has never been selected for the senior team.
His performances at the Olympics were widely praised, and he played a key role in Spain’s gold medal campaign.

Now, after securing a move to Barcelona this summer, his steady rise appears to be getting the recognition it deserves.
Luis de la Fuente, who is reportedly keeping a close eye on Garcia, could be ready to reward the goalkeeper’s consistency and development.
Besides Garcia, the upcoming squad list will also be notable for other returns, including the possible comeback of Rodri Hernández.
The Manchester City midfielder is expected to be back after recovering from injury and featuring in the Club World Cup.
On the other hand, the likes of Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Pau Cubarsi will certainly be called up to international duty.
For Garcia, this possible senior debut would not only be a personal milestone but also a boost to Barcelona, as they look to integrate him into their long-term plans.
If selected, it would mark the beginning of a new chapter in his already promising career.
