The visitors suffered their first setback midway through the first half as Frenkie de Jong was stretchered off with an ankle injury after landing awkwardly.
Matters worsened for the Blaugrana just minutes before the interval at San Mamés when Pedri was forced off with a suspected hamstring issue.
Despite creating several half-chances during the second 45 minutes, neither side side were able to engineer a breakthrough.
Barça remain third in LaLiga, eight points adrift of the summit, while Athletic Club sit five points off Atlético de Madrid in the final Champions League spot.
