Barcelona have a couple of crucial months in front of them as they look to go big in the summer transfer window and build a squad capable of battling for top honours.

Financial issues have held the Catalans back in the transfer market over the past year. And it was the reason that they could not compete with Manchester City and ended up losing in the race to sign Erling Haaland.

SPORT has now come up with a report detailing the economic situation at the club and how president Joan Laporta is preparing to tackle them heading into the summer.

As per the report, Barcelona are in a loss of €480 million, which could rise up to €600 million in the coming months. So, it is imperative for them to gain some liquidation not only to operate successfully in the transfer market but also deal with the club’s day-to-day activities.

Laporta is close to completing the sale of a 49% stake in Barça Licensing & Merchandise (BLM), from which he is hoping to pocket €320 million.

A €200 million deal has been struck with the consortium formed by Fanatics and Investindustrial for a certain percentage, while negotiations are underway for the remaining €120 million.

At the same time, Barça are also on the verge of closing a deal for the sale of a part of Barça Studios to Polkadot, which would fetch them €60 million. This total of €380 million will grant the club plenty of room to manoeuvre in the transfer market.

Two offers for TV Rights

Apart from these two deals, Barcelona are also set to finalise an agreement for the TV rights which would hand them a significant revenue heading into the summer.

As things stand, the report states that Barcelona have two offers on the table for the broadcast rights. The first one is the CVC deal in partnership with La Liga, which could fetch the Blaugrana €270 million for ceding 10% of the TV rights for a period of 50 years.

The second proposal comes from Goldman Sachs, who are willing to offer €400 million to Barça for 20% of the TV rights over a duration of 20 years.

While the board considers both offers on the table, there are several members who are opposed to both proposals due to the duration of the deals.

Finalising the CVC agreement could be an attractive proposition considering it might earn Barcelona some favour with La Liga president Javier Tebas, which, in turn, could earn them some leeway with regard to their salary limits.

A decision is yet to be taken, but at the moment, the sales of stakes in Barça Studios and BLM are close to being finalised. It must be noted that Barcelona wish to repurchase those once the club’s financial situation is stabilised.
