FC Barcelona are constantly looking for ways to generate additional revenue and improve their financial situation. Considering the attention to detail that is given to such matters, any kind of new revenue stream or way to generate income is welcome. Fortunately, Barcelona can also do that organically through certain measures.
So far, these aforementioned limitations are exactly why the club is having issues with Financial Fair Play as well. From being unable to register players to having a very limited scope of operating within the transfer market, Barcelona need to improve this situation quickly.
Fortunately, it seems that the club does have some tricks up their sleeve. The recent announcement of Lamine Yamal becoming the club’s new number ‘10’, inheriting that number directly from Ansu Fati, seems to have given Barcelona a major boost in terms of generated income and revenue.

As highlighted by SPORT, the very afternoon that the player was announced as the new number ‘10’, hundreds of fans gathered at the club’s official store at the Spotify Camp Nou to get his shirt for themselves. While the club has stated that sales have been spectacular, no official number of jersey sales came directly from them.
According to the information available within this report, however, around 70,000 jerseys with Yamal’s name and new number were sold in just one day. From a financial standpoint, that alone is an extremely promising sign in regards to the decision of giving Yamal the number ‘10’ shirt.
Reportedly, the club acknowledges it themselves as well. The decision to associate Yamal with the number ‘10’ has proven to be a very fruitful decision and it has unlocked an entirely new revenue stream for the club that could bring millions on its own.
Moreover, the report suggests that Barça is expecting to make some great leaps from a financial standpoint moving forward. Thanks to the success of the new kit, especially with the surge in sales following the Yamal announcement, Barcelona is confident that this new season will break merchandising and sponsorship-related records.
The revenue from Barça Licensing and Merchandising (BLM) was between €140 million to €150 million last season. This season, however, Barcelona reportedly expects that to increase and continue to surge as the campaign progresses.
Other measures to boost the club’s revenue and income have also been studied recently. In fact, a certain new sponsorship is also in the works with the Democratic Republic of Congo that could bring in significant revenue for Barcelona as well.
