La Liga giants Barcelona are still forking over wages to a trio of high-profile former Blaugrana stars.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets as the players in question.
Messi, Alba and Busquets are of course currently plying their respective trades in the USA, with Inter Miami.
In the case of the latter pair, both brought their iconic stints in Catalunya’s capital to a close in the summer of 2023, before heading directly to Major League Soccer.
Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi, meanwhile, departed for Paris Saint-Germain back in 2021, after space could not be found for Barcelona’s greatest-ever player on the club’s wage bill.
And yet, as alluded to above, all three are still owed payments on the part of the Blaugrana.
As per the aforementioned MD, this comes after Messi, Busquets and Alba all agreed to defer their wages to help the Camp Nou brass during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Thankfully for Joan Laporta and co, though, it is concluded that ‘this will be the last season in which Barça will have to pay part of the salaries deferred due to the pandemic’.
