Barcelona are on a war path with their current first captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with the relationship between the two parties at an all-time low.
Things were already tense between the German and the Blaugrana following the club’s decision to sign Joan Garcia and install him as the No. 1.
It only got worse after the 33-year-old underwent back surgery, as he refused to sign the medical report that Barcelona intend to send to La Liga so that they can use his absence to register Garcia.
As such, reports emerged overnight stating that Barcelona have decided to strip Ter Stegen of team captaincy, with a disciplinary file now opened against him.
However, according to Gerard Romero, Barcelona have not yet communicated any decision regarding the captaincy to Ter Stegen.
The 33-year-old veteran did visit the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper earlier today, but it had nothing to do with the captaincy situation. Instead, he was there to do some recovery work following his back surgery.

For now, the Catalans have not informed him about any decision with regard to the change in captaincy for the upcoming season.
Furthermore, the report also states that there was no vote conducted for the appointment of captains for the new season.
It was expected that the vote would be held today so that the leadership group could be finalised in time for Sunday’s Joan Gamper Trophy match against Como. But it did not take place.
Irrespective of that, Barcelona are furious with Ter Stegen and believe that he is acting in bad faith to purposely complicate their efforts to register Joan Garcia before the start of the season.
With a disciplinary file open, it is very likely that the German international will be removed as the first captain, with reports suggesting that Frenkie de Jong is a favourite to replace him.
