FC Barcelona have been working hard to tie down the contract renewals of several key players in the squad.

The likes of Pedri, Gavi, Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Inigo Martinez, among others, have signed new deals while Jules Kounde has also reached an agreement over an extension, as reported on Friday.

Frenkie de Jong is also in line for a new deal, as is Eric Garcia, who has won over Hansi Flick and has been declared non-transferable this summer.

Talks progressing slowly

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Eric Garcia’s contract renewal with Barcelona is progressing more slowly than anticipated.

The versatile defender’s current deal runs until 2026, and so far, his future remains unresolved.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta and director Deco have made it clear that they do not want any player in the squad to go into the season while in the final year of their contract.

Both Barcelona and Garcia are positively inclined towards reaching an agreement over a new deal.

As such, the Blaugrana are confident that there will be no major obstacles in finding common ground, and both sides believe that an agreement will be reached sooner rather than later.

Over the course of the 2024/25 season, Garcia grew into a crucial part of Hansi Flick’s plans at Barcelona.

The former Manchester City ace performed strongly not only as a centre-back but also as a defensive midfielder and right-back. Across all these roles, his contributions were consistently impressive.

As such, Flick approved the start of contract talks for Garcia. Moreover, the player’s intention is to remain at Barcelona, where he feels valued and integrated. So, there is belief that a renewal agreement can be reached.
