Barcelona star’s future tied to continuity of boss Xavi | OneFootball

A fresh insight into the future of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has today come to the fore online.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and points towards De Jong’s continuity in Barcelona colours beyond the summer potentially being tied to the plans of boss Xavi.

Mounting reports over recent days have of course pushed the suggestion that Xavi, after announcing his intention to step down come the season’s close back in January, is now leaning towards staying put in Catalunya’s capital.

Buoyed by the support of the club’s board, and with demands on the transfer market looking increasingly likely to be met, the 44-year-old appears ready to go back on his call to move on.

And as much could prove itself to be a blessing in disguise for Frenkie de Jong.

Dutchman De Jong, for his part, is eager to continue his journey in the Blaugrana shirt into next season and beyond.

Something of a split has long opened up behind the scenes at the club, however, when it comes as much.

A number of Barcelona board members, it is understood, are of the opinion that cashing in on their oft-sidelined engine room star this summer represents the best option.

But, as per the aforementioned Sport, one firm supporter of De Jong’s continuity comes in the form of his headmaster:

‘Frenkie de Jong wants to continue at Barça and Xavi wants him in his project if the coach finally agrees to continue beyond June 30,’ it is confirmed.
