Barcelona star’s Atlético Madrid links shut down | OneFootball

Speculation linking a member of the defensive ranks at Barcelona with a summer move to La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid has today been firmly rejected.

The player at the heart of the rumours? Marcos Alonso.

Stopper Alonso has seen his name return to the fore in the media across the week to date.

This comes after it was suggested that the former Chelsea man is all set to take his talents to the Wanda Metropolitano with a view to next season.

Alonso’s Barcelona contract is due to expire in the summer, with the Camp Nou brass having no intention of affording him fresh terms.

With Mario Hermoso primed to bid farewell to Atlético, too, Alonso has in turn been widely tipped as his replacement.

Those of a Rojiblancos persuasion will therefore no doubt be interested to hear that, on Friday evening, any and all links between their club and the experienced defender have been shut down.

As per transfer insider Matteo Moretto of Relevo:

‘Nothing has changed regarding the situation between Atlético and Marcos Alonso. Today, there is not even negotiation.’
