Although there are still a lot of days left in the current summer transfer market, the FC Barcelona team that will take to the field for the next season is gradually taking shape.
The Catalans have already added the goalkeeper Joan Garcia to their squad, and also recently closed the signing of the youngster Roony Bardghji.
On the other hand, the future of one of their players that was previously somewhat uncertain is now also more pronounced. This is none other than the defender Ronald Araujo.
In his last renewal with Barcelona, it was decided that the Uruguayan centre-back’s release clause would decrease from €1 billion to €60 million from 1st to 15th July.
As SPORT has noted, this window is now already past, and the defender’s release clause is now once again standing at €1 billion. As a result, Araujo’s continuity at the Catalan club is now practically assured.
After some doubts about his future and role at the club, the centre-back is now also becoming clearer about his future at the Blaugrana club.
In fact, his role might be enhanced even further, as he can become the first captain if Ter Stegen leaves. The player himself is keen to return to his best level after a forgettable last season.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are also clear that they want to offload at least one centre-back. With Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi fixed starters for Hansi Flick, Eric Garcia also making himself a key part of the squad, and Araujo’s release clause also back to an unaffordable level, Andreas Christensen remains the most likely candidate for a departure.
The Dane’s contract is expiring next year, and this will further push Barcelona for his departure this summer. For now, it remains to be seen where he will play next season, but Ronald Araujo seems to have already secured his position in Hansi Flick’s squad for the next season.
