After much speculation over his future over the past few weeks, Jan Virgili has finally sealed his fate by joining RCD Mallorca on a permanent deal.

Virgili was regarded as one of the most talented young players at La Masia and recently turned heads with his performance at the Maracana.

But with no real hopes of a first-team breakthrough at Barça, Virgili has decided to join Mallorca in search of regular game-time.

Virgili’s farewell message to Barcelona

In light of his exit, Virgili has penned a heartfelt and emotional message to Barcelona, thanking the club for everything.

“Hello Culers! This is a memory that will remain etched in my life forever. Wearing the FC Barcelona jersey was a dream that, even today, I struggle to believe,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

“Thank you to all the people who made this stage something special and very important for my growth as a football player and as a person. It was a short but wonderful journey, and my family and I couldn’t be happier,” he added.

Unlike most of his other teammates, Virgili was not a homegrown talent. He joined La Masia in 2024 from Gimnastic de Tarragona.

After joining the Barcelona youth system, the young attacker quickly became an important player for Juliano Belletti’s side.

Virgili’s rapid rise to prominence led many to believe that he may soon make a breakthrough in the first team.

However, intense competition, coupled with the new signings of Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji, made sure that doesn’t happen.

Realising he may be too overqualified for fourth division football, Virgili has decided to join Mallorca, where he will team up with Pablo Torre.

“Thank you, Barcelona, I will never stop loving these colours, see you soon!” he concluded in his heartfelt post.

This is not the end of the road for Virgili and Barcelona, however, as the club have retained a first refusal clause in his contract.
