Little under a week ago, SPORT relayed a report stating that should he refuse to extend, he would have no further place in the team anymore. Despite how thin the squad is, the Frenchman’s return to fitness will change nothing in the team’s dynamics.

He has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs. Manchester United is the top club interested in him at the moment. The Red Devils are paying close attention to him and Barcelona, as well as how contract talks progress.

As it stands the club and player’s agent have hit a brick wall, and United are planning on capitalising on the situation, getting him on a free deal.

Meanwhile, the Catalans are paying attention to the defending Premier League champions, Manchester City. The Sky Blues have struggled to instill the necessary confidence in Raheem Sterling to extend his contract.

As such, should Barcelona lose the Frenchman, they have an adequate replacement this winter. The Blaugrana plan on getting him on a loan deal with a mandatory purchase option.
