Barcelona star ‘very close’ to Atlético Madrid move | OneFootball

A somewhat forgotten member of the defensive ranks at Barcelona is inching ever closer to a move to La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid.

That’s according to Diario Sport, citing Cadena SER, who have confirmed that Marcos Alonso swapping Catalunya for Spain’s capital appears to be just a matter of time.

Left-back Alonso, for his part, is due to see his contract terms with Barcelona expire in the summer.

With a combination of competition for places and fitness problems having restricted the 33-year-old to just four league appearances across the season to date, the decision has long been made that Alonso’s deal will not be renewed.

As much has opened the door for clubs interested in his signature to enter the fray, aware that the former Chelsea man will be available for nothing in just a few months’ time.

And, as alluded to above, one such club appear to have opened up a significant lead over the chasing pack in the bidding for Alonso’s services.

As per Sport, Diego Simeone’s Atlético are ‘very close’ to sealing a definitive contract agreement with the Spanish international.

‘The conversations between the full-back and the Colchoneros are going very well and the agreement could be closed shortly.’

Alonso, also capable of lining out at centre-half, looks set to act as a replacement for the outbound Mario Hermoso in Madrid.
