A headline member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is set to return to the club following his time on international duty sporting a fresh knock.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have provided an insight into the situation.

Robert Lewandowski, for his part, played a central role on Tuesday, as Poland booked their spot at Euro 2024 at the expense of Wales.

Seeing out the full 90 minutes, as well as an ensuing 30 minutes of extra-time in Cardiff, the veteran striker went on to slot home the first of his country’s five shootout penalties, en route to a 5-4 triumph from the spot.

And yet, as per MD, such exploits actually came despite Lewandowski having been struggling with a fitness concern.

The 35-year-old was spotted clutching at his thigh on a number of occasions in the Welsh capital, after taking a blow during the 2nd-half.

Poland’s medical team applied ice to the area ahead of extra-time getting underway, with Lewandowski, in the end, having managed to play through the pain.

Upon the adrenaline passing, and the former Borussia Dortmund man coming back down to earth on the back of an emotionally-charged evening, though, it remains to be seen whether the knock in question gives rise to any sort of lasting damage.

Barcelona, of course, will return to action this weekend, in a La Liga meeting with Las Palmas.
