Barcelona star suffers serious injury during Villarreal clash | OneFootball

A headline member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Sunday suffered what looks like a serious injury.

The player in question? Marc-André ter Stegen.

Hansi Flick’s troops are of course currently locked in action, in a league meeting with Villarreal.

Fresh off a first defeat of the term in the Champions League in midweek, Barca have turned their attentions back towards matters on the domestic front, in a trip to El Madrigal.

As things stand on Sunday evening, the Blaugrana find themselves in possession of a 2-1 advantage, owing to a Robert Lewandowski brace.

And yet, as alluded to above, in an otherwise positive outing to date for Flick and co, one major source of concern has also been forthcoming.

As much arrived late in the first-half, upon the aforementioned Marc-André ter Stegen going to ground, in evident distress.

After collecting the ball in the air, shot-stopper Ter Stegen came down awkwardly on his foot, before immediately clutching at his knee.

The serious nature of the situation quickly became clear, as the German international was heard screaming in pain.

Ter Stegen was ultimately stretchered from the field of play by the Barcelona medical team whilst in a flood of tears, ahead of what could prove to be a lengthy incoming spell on the sidelines.
