A headline member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona will be unavailable for selection for the club’s next outing.

The player in question? İlkay Gündoğan.

Gündoğan, for his part, is fresh off playing a central role in Barcelona’s return to winning ways on Monday night.

Afforded his latest starting berth, the German international laid on Lamine Yamal’s opener courtesy of a typically inch-perfect pass, en route to a 2-0 downing of Real Sociedad.

As alluded to above, though, on an otherwise positive night’s work, Gündoğan was also dealt a personal blow.

As much came upon the former Manchester City standout being shown a yellow card early in the 2nd-half in Catalunya’s capital.

His fifth of the campaign, Gündoğan is therefore in line for a one-game La Liga suspension.

The 33-year-old will serve his ban this coming Thursday, when Barca make the trip to the Power Horse Stadium, for a meeting with the already-relegated Almería.

“Losing Gündogan against Almería will be tough,” Blaugrana boss Xavi admitted post-match.
