Calls for Barcelona star Raphinha to be awarded the Ballon d’Or have on Saturday reached new heights.

This comes owing to developments in Barca’s latest outing.

The Blaugrana marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming Celta Vigo to Catalunya’s capital for a La Liga clash.

Just beyond the hour mark, Hansi Flick’s troops looked in serious danger of dropping all three points, after a Borja Iglesias hat-trick guided Celta into a 3-1 advantage.

When they needed him most, though, Barcelona’s most potent attacking threat produced the goods once more.

Raphinha first laid on a gorgeous assist for Dani Olmo to pull one back, before drawing the evening’s hosts level courtesy of a strike of his own a short time later.

Then, deep into injury-time, the Brazilian lashed home from the penalty spot, completing the turnaround, and guiding Hansi Flick’s squad one step closer to La Liga glory.

And as alluded to above, the significance of as much has certainly not been lost on those of a Blaugrana persuasion.

This comes amid widespread calls for Raphinha to be rewarded for his incredible output across the season to date, by way of the Ballon d’Or prize.
