Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has this week provided an insight into the conditions which would be required for him to seek out an exit from the club.
De Jong, for his part, has of course seen his name take its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several months now.
As much comes as the 27-year-old’s ongoing struggles for game-time give rise to mounting speculation that De Jong could well be sold next summer.
The former Ajax man is due to see his contract terms expire in the summer of 2026, with Deco and the Camp Nou board therefore having a major decision to make when it comes to a potential renewal.
Speaking during an interview with Voetbal International on Thursday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his future was put to De Jong himself.
And the Dutch international did not hesitate in highlighting the specific circumstances which would be required for him to give the green light to as much:
“If I feel I can’t contribute enough, or if the team can’t compete, I’ll leave.”
