Barcelona star Pedri was quick to highlight an incident from one of last season’s El Clásico fixtures in making clear his bemusement with the penalty awarded against his side yesterday evening.
Barcelona, of course, are fresh off an outing to remember on Saturday.
After making the trip to Valencia for a meeting with newly-promoted Levante, the Blaugrana ultimately emerged with all three points.
With 45 minutes on the clock, however, Hansi Flick’s troops found themselves in serious trouble.
After Iván Romero opened the scoring for Levante early on, the hosts doubled their advantage on the stroke of the interval.
As much came from the penalty spot, after Alejandro Balde was penalised for an alleged handball offence.
The decision sparked widespread frustration across the Barcelona fanbase, with Balde’s arm having been held close to his body.
And as alluded to above, post-match, Pedri was quick to jump to the defence of his teammate and fellow countryman.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at the Estadi Ciutat de València, the midfielder, who kickstarted his side’s three-goal comeback, highlighted a non-awarded penalty against Real Madrid in El Clásico last season, in explaining:
“The handball? Honestly, I don’t know, a short while ago, they gave us a lecture at the federation about handballs, and for example, Tchouaméni’s handball last season in Montjuïc was, for me, a clear handball, while this one, for me, wasn’t, yet they called it.”
