Barcelona star has been playing through injury for several weeks | OneFootball

A headline member of the midfield setup at La Liga giants Barcelona has firmly reiterated his commitment to the cause at the club over the last couple of weeks.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Sergi Roberto as the player in question.

The versatile Roberto, it is understood, suffered a painful injury during the 2nd-half of Barcelona’s La Liga defeat at the hands of Girona earlier this month.

Owing to a heavy collision in the middle of the park, the Spaniard picked up a fracture in one of his ribs.

Roberto played through the pain at the Estadi Montilivi, before ultimately being replaced late on.

And, despite continuing to suffer with the problem, the 32-year-old went on to play his part in each of Barcelona’s ensuing three fixtures, too, featuring from the off in two.

This is precisely the kind of commitment which is expected to see Roberto rewarded by way of a new one-year contract extension over the weeks ahead.

He will never be the most popular figure amongst the Blaugrana faithful, many of whom remain of the opinion that Roberto does not boast the required quality to play a regular role for their side.

But the club captain’s devotion and loyalty to all things Barcelona should never be called into question.
