Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has been subjected to more fouls on the part of opposing players than any other player across Europe’s leading divisions this season.
That’s according to ESPN, who have on Monday crunched the numbers.
The subject of the tough treatment being afforded to Lamine by opposition defenders has of course positioned itself front and centre in the headlines in Spain over the last 24 hours.
This comes after the 17-year-old was forced into a premature departure from Luis de la Fuente’s La Roja squad.
After being subjected to a series of heavy challenges en route to a 1-0 downing of Denmark in the Nations League, Lamine was left hobbled, and in no condition to take part against Serbia on Tuesday.
Concern has long been mounting back in Barcelona when it comes to the situation, as defenders continue to make use of the ‘by any means necessary’ approach to halt the progress of world football’s standout young player.
And as much, as alluded to above, is very much reflected in the numbers.
As revealed by ESPN:
‘Lamine Yamal is the most fouled player in all competitions for club and country in Europe’s top five leagues this season (38 fouls).’
