Barcelona star could be handed a first start of the season vs Girona | OneFootball

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona could be in line for his first starting berth of the campaign this coming weekend.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Eric García as the player in question.

Defender Eric, for his part, has played something of a bit-part role for Barcelona over the early weeks of the new term.

All told, across the club’s quartet of successive victories to kick things into gear, the Spaniard has been afforded three appearances off the bench, for a total of 55 minutes.

Boasting a firm believer in boss Hansi Flick, and with Pau Cubarsí fresh off another busy international break, though, Eric, this weekend, could at last be afforded his chance to feature from the off.

Barca are of course in the thick of preparations for their post-break return to action, with a Catalan Derby meeting with Girona waiting in store on Sunday.

And, as per a report from Diario Sport, ‘Eric – Iñigo Martínez is a realistic option’ to fill the heart of defence at the Estadi Montilivi.
