Barcelona star Gavi has admitted that he was left with no choice but to depart the club’s meeting with Athletic Club prematurely.
Youngster Gavi, for his part, of course played a starring role for Barcelona on Wednesday night.
Afforded a starting berth in Hansi Flick’s XI for the club’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final meeting with the aforementioned Athletic, the 20-year-old played a direct hand in both of the Blaugrana’s goals, en route to a 2-0 triumph.
Gavi was widely hailed for the level of his display, continuing to close on his brilliant best after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
In turn, it came as something of a disappointment for the Barca faithful when, just beyond the 70-minute mark, the midfielder was hooked from proceedings by boss Hansi Flick.
Speaking to the media post-match, though, Gavi was not shy in admitting that his manager made the right call:
“I had to be subbed off, I was too tired.”
