Goalkeeper is one of the areas of their team that FC Barcelona want strengthened ahead of the 2025-26 season, and they have made significant progress in their pursuit of a top-class goalkeeper as they are already reportedly in the final stages of completing the signing of the RCD Espanyol goalie, Joan Garcia.
The Blaugranes are set to sign the Spaniard after paying his €25 million release clause. While this would be quite an exciting addition to Hansi Flick’s squad, it is also expected to create some problems, as his arrival would directly impact the status and role of other goalkeepers in the team.

The captain, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, would be the one player most impacted by this move, and previous reports indicated that he is set to have a serious meeting with Deco to talk about his situation.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are clear that they will not give any explanations to anyone about the moves they are making to strengthen the team.
The Blaugrana club’s logic is that the sports planning is being done by professionals, headed by Deco and Hansi Flick, and they are within their right to reinforce the squad as they see fit.
Thus, they are not going to give any explanations to any of their forwards if they sign Luis Diaz, and this will also be the case when they complete the signing of Joan Garcia.
The Catalans see Hansi Flick as the individual who will make the decision about his starting goalkeeper, and if he deems it appropriate, he will provide explanations to the affected players. If that is not the case, his lineups will do the speaking for themselves.
The players themselves can reach out to the coach to discuss any issues, but the Blaugrana coach will give answers to questions that he deems appropriate. If anyone remains unsatisfied and wants to leave, the matter will be referred to Deco.
However, things have not reached such a points with ter Stegen, and it remains to be seen how his future will pan out at Barcelona.
