Barcelona Sporting Director Deco has told back-up goalkeeper Inaki Pena that they are keen to continue with him next season, save for a surprise in the market. The 25-year-old played 17 games in the absence of Marc-Andre ter Stegen through injury to mixed reviews this season.
As per Diario AS, Deco explained to his agents this Tuesday that unless a major offer comes in for him this summer, they wanted him to continue at the club. Pena himself is keen to do so, and hopes to have a fresh opportunity to demonstrate his ability next season.
Across the divide, Andriy Lunin has shown that a few shaky performances do not a bad goalkeeper make. Albeit, Barcelona may take some convincing that he can ever be the undisputed starter down the line. Currently Pena has two years left on his deal, while ter Stegen is contracted to the club for another four years, taking him to the age of 36.
