Football has finally reached one of the final steps in the over-extended Ousmane Dembele – Barcelona renewal saga, as the club’s sporting director, Mateu Alemany, has confirmed that the Frenchman does not want to continue wearing the garnet and blue.

“We understand that Dembele does not want to continue with Barcelona, and our final stance has been communicated to him. We want committed players, and we have told him that has to leave the club as soon as possible,” he said.

Elaborating on the club’s stance on wanting to sell him in January, Alemany said, “We told Dembele he has to leave. We expect him to be sold before January 31st.”

There were several talks about how Barça continued to make offers to Dembele, which were rejected in search of a bumper salary. Alemany reaffirmed that stance, saying, “In six months, we have made several offers to Dembele. The coach’s decision is clear.”

The injury-prone forward has been linked with an exit to Newcastle United and Juventus in the winter but reportedly does not want to leave this month. That rigidness could, however, come back to bite him with the World Cup 2022 in sight.
