Xavi’s side, who were without their Polish talisman due to injury, got off to a nightmare start as the hosts moved ahead after just 16 seconds – the earliest LaLiga goal scored in four years.

Granada broke after Gavi was dispossessed in midfield before Bryan Zaragoza was set away and he fired lowed through the arms of Marc-André ter Stegen from just inside the area.

It was the same perpetuator who doubled Granada’s advantage just before the half-hour mark, again finding himself in the box after a counter-attack, this time showing great composure to sit Jules Koundé before lofting the ball over Ter Stegen.

Matters went from bad to worse for the Catalans before half-time when Koundé had to be withdrawn due to injury after a collision with teammate Gavi.

The champions got themselves back into the game in first half stoppage time when Yamal took advantage of some good work from João Félix to tap home at the far post to become LaLiga’s youngest ever goalscorer.

Barça pressed for an equaliser in the second half and were met by a resilient home side, who were looking to cling on to their first win since the opening day of the season.

Ferran Torres got on to the end of Ronald Araújo’s header back across goal but couldn’t get a strong touch on the ball and André Ferreira was able to claim before the Granada goalkeeper was called into action to palm away İlkay Gündoğan’s effort from outside of the box.

Eventually the pressure did tell as Barcelona worked an opening around the Granada box leading to Alejandro Balde’s low cross being poked over the line at the far post by captain Sergi Roberto.

Surprisingly it was then Paco López’s side who came close to a late winner as Zaragoza found himself clear in the area again but this time the post came to Barcelona’s rescue to deny his effort.

Félix thought he had won the game in stoppage time with a back-post header but the goal was ruled out for a controversial offside with Torres, who was offside in the build-up, not appearing to interfere with the play.

Barcelona fail to gain ground on the leaders Real Madrid at the top, finding themselves in third place and three points behind heading into the international break.
