There is no doubt that injuries have contributed significantly to the less-than-expected standards of Barcelona this season. The Culers have suffered with the absences of some key players throughout the season, with players like Gavi and Balde still unavailable due to their long-term injuries, while Frenkie de Jong is also currently on the sidelines.

Another player who has suffered a lot due to injuries this season, and for a major part of his career at the Catalan club, is the midfielder Pedri. He has missed 19 games this season with fitness issues, and a total of 64 games since his arrival at the club in 2020.

But there is no doubt that when he is fully fit, he is one of the best midfielders in the world. He still remains one the key parts of Xavi’s midfield structure, and as a result, contacts are already underway between the player’s entourage and Barcelona for his renewal.

Pedri’s current contract goes till 2026, and contacts for a renewal began some months ago. However, as MARCA has reported, there is still no significant progress made towards an agreement, primarily because of the economic situation of the club. Still, both parties are committed to the idea of remaining linked for the foreseeable future.

Barcelona are currently waiting to find their salary limits for the next season, and thus are in no rush to complete this operation. Meanwhile, Pedri also knows that the Catalans fully trust him, and is also aware of the financial situation of the club, and thus there is nothing to worry about in this regard.

Xavi has highlighted Pedri’s great talent and contribution numerous times in the past, and there is no doubt that the Canary Islander remains one of the most trusted members of the squad. The midfielder has already amassed 138 appearances in the blue and garnet colors, scoring 18 goals and 13 assists in the process.
