Barcelona showing strong interest 16-year-old prodigy with €5 million release clause | OneFootball

FC Barcelona are always on the lookout for young talents with potential to add to their academy and develop them into first-team stars.

One such player that the Catalans had been closely tracking over the past year or so was Portuguese starlet Cardoso Varela.

One of the most exciting young prospects in Portugal, Varela, at one point, even appeared to be heading to Barça but the move did not materialise.

Following that, the teenage winger ended up signing for Dinamo Zagreb in February earlier this year.

Barcelona rekindle interest

However, now, according to journalist Lorenzo Lapore, Barcelona are once again showing strong interest in Cardoso Varela.

The report suggests that the youngster has a release clause worth just €5 million in his contract.

Barcelona sporting director Deco had already met with his compatriot’s agents towards the end of last year to try and engineer a move but it ended up collapsing.

However, it appears that the Catalans are once again back in the hunt for the teenage prodigy, who has already made 22 appearances for the Portuguese Under-17 team, even scoring three goals.

Capable of playing anywhere across the frontline, Varela could be an exciting addition for Barcelona with an eye on the future.

What now remains to be seen is whether they are prepared to shell out the €5 million release clause amount to secure Varela’s signing, months after he moved to Dinamo Zagreb.
