Barcelona are now expected to submit a new bid for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski this week.
The Polish striker has been unequivocal about his wish to leave the German champions after eight seasons at the Allianz Arena.
“I don’t want to play there anymore. A transfer is the best solution. I hope they don’t stop me,” he told reporters back in May.
Sport1 report that Barcelona have already had two offers, worth €32m plus €5m in bonuses and €35m plus €5m in bonuses, rejected.
But a third bid, worth an initial €40m, is now in the offing. The report says the offer will be made within 48 hours and adds that the fee could reach the high 40s with bonuses, with Barcelona of the belief it is a very good offer for a 34-year-old with one year remaining on his contract.
Their previous two bids have been turned down by Bayern, but Barça are now going back at the same time they are closing in on an agreement to sell Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United.
Lewandowski scored 50 goals in 46 appearances last season and Bayern, who have already signed Sadio Mané from Liverpool this summer, have insisted they want to keep the Pole.
