Barcelona set to miss out on revenue from the sale of former player this summer

In light of the lack of desired sales in the first team, Barcelona have been relying on sales of past players to generate revenue for them this summer, thanks to various clauses held in those deals.

One such deal was Oscar Mingueza, when the Catalans held 50% of the player’s rights when he joined Celta Vigo.

Mingueza was close to leaving Celta Vigo in January, and the defender has continued to be linked with a move elsewhere throughout this summer.

Barcelona have been closely following Mingueza’s transfer saga, knowing any potential sale could make them entitled to half the transfer value.

Mingueza deal ruled out

However, in a major development, it appears Oscar Mingueza’s transfer away from Celta Vigo has been ruled out, at least for this summer, reports SPORT.

That is because the former Barcelona player could now renew his contract at Celta Vigo in a three-year deal.

While Barcelona will continue to retain 50% of the defender’s transfer rights, a move this summer has been ruled out and the club must, therefore, looks elsewhere as they look to generate fresh revenue.

This is a massive blow for the Catalans, especially knowing the fact that Aston Villa were reportedly keen on paying €20 million for Mingueza this summer.

That would have sealed at least €10 million inflow for Barcelona, who have so far freed up €21 million through sales of Pablo Torre, Ansu Fati, Clement Lenglet and now Pau Victor, who is expected to join SC Braga this summer.

Barcelona will be hoping to initiate more such sales in the coming days in their bid to reduce the stress on the wage bill and register new signings such as Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford.
