Barcelona set to hold one final meeting regarding contract extension of midfielder | OneFootball

With just one week remaining until the season comes to an end, Barcelona are expected to shift their attention completely to the pending contracts, with the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto having their deals expire at the end of the season.

While Barcelona are actively trying to negotiate a contract extension for Dembele, they are also in talks with the agent of Gavi, whose current deal at Camp Nou expires at the end of next season.

The two parties have been locked in negotiations for quite a while now but a move has not materialised.

But to their fortune, Gavi has no immediate plans to leave Barcelona and feels more than satisfied continuing his progress in the city, under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez, despite interest from a few Premier League clubs.

Spanish journalist Helena Condis has now offered an update on the situation, suggesting Barcelona are set to meet Gavi’s agent for one last time today, doling out final negotiations over a contract extension.

Barcelona have prioritised the renewal as they are aware of the risk of losing Gavi in the summer if they fail to nail him down to a new long-term contract.

Condis believes the two sides are close to reaching an agreement after a long span of negotiations. The new deal will likely include a handsome pay raise for Gavi, thanks to his services throughout the season.

It will be quite an achievement for the 17-year-old, who will hope to maintain a similar level of progress and become a more prominent figure in Barcelona in the years to come.

While Gavi’s deal could be finalised in the coming days, Barcelona have been dealt with a few roadblocks in their bid to keep hold of Dembele, with his agent’s commissions seemingly becoming an obstacle for the Catalans.
