Barcelona are yet to negotiate the terms of Xavi’s departure, and the objective appears complicated considering the financial compensation that could be involved.

The administration, however, are clear that the Spanish tactician will not continue for next season, and Hansi Flick has taken over the pole position to replace the club legend on the sidelines.

While all news around the German’s appointment was purely speculative, SPORT now brings a breaking update confirming that Flick’s appointment at Barcelona is all but confirmed.

Terms of the agreement

As revealed by the outlet, the Barcelona management has decided to table a contract for two seasons for Flick with an option for a further extension. He is expected to take over the reins on June 30th and will pioneer a long-term project.

Barcelona has always been Flick’s priority, for he placed offers from Manchester United and Chelsea on hold to sign for the Catalans. An announcement is expected just around the corner and is only pending the finalisation of Xavi’s departure.

The meeting with Flick and Pini Zahavi on Wednesday was crucial in finalising the appointment and the agreement with the tactician is practically confirmed.

Ready for the grind

Flick is aware that signing for Barcelona will not be an easy challenge to conquer. He perfectly understands the club’s economic situation and will thus sign on a reasonable salary with a larger sum hinging on sporting achievements.

The management have already discussed possible signings and transfers with Flick, and he is even said to have given the green light for Guido Rodriguez’s arrival and certain departures.

The other option on the administration’s table is Rafa Marquez, but all signs point to Flick’s arrival in the Catalan capital. It is, in fact, taken for granted at this point.
