The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have identified a new target in their ongoing efforts to reinforce the club’s midfield ranks.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, citing Danish sources, who have provided a fresh insight into developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

It is of course common knowledge that Deco and his team of Barca directors are on the lookout for fresh blood in the middle of the park with a view to next season.

As much comes owing to all of the long-term injury suffered by Gavi, ongoing fitness struggles of Pedri, and likely departures of both Oriol Romeu, and Sergi Roberto.

In turn, the Blaugrana have long been scouring the market, to draw up a shortlist of targets for the summer.

And, as alluded to above, on Friday, a new name has been added to the list.

The player in question? Morten Hjulmand.

Hjulmand, for his part, has proven one of the star performers of the Portuguese season to date.

After making the move to Sporting CP from Italian outfit Lecce last summer, the Danish international has gone on to prove himself an instant hit, shining from his deep-lying midfield berth.

And his performances, it would appear, have now begun to pique the attentions of one of Spanish football’s heavyweights.

As per the aforementioned MD, Barcelona are hot ‘on the trail’ of Hjulmand, with a view to a future bid for his services.

Should the 24-year-old provide even the slightest hint that he is ready to ‘pack his bags’ in Lisbon, the Catalans will therefore be ready to swoop this summer.
