Following the season-ending injury to Marc-Andre ter Stegen last month, FC Barcelona roped in Wojciech Szczesny as a short-term replacement for the German.

The 34-year-old ex-Juventus man came out of retirement and has signed a deal that will expire on June 30, 2025.

Unless something dramatic happens over the next months, Szczesny and Barcelona are in agreement that they will part ways once the season is over.

And, SPORT now reports that Barcelona are planning to further reinforce the goalkeeping position in the summer, even though there is faith in Inaki Pena.

Marcin Bulka on the radars

Indeed, as per the report, Barcelona have their eyes on Szczesny’s compatriot Marcin Bulka, who plies his trade for Nice in Ligue 1.

Bulka, 25, has had stints at Chelsea and PSG during his career before he made the switch to Nice in 2021, where he has grown into a vital player.

Curiously, Bulka had a trial at Barcelona during his youth days back in 2016 before he signed for the Chelsea youth academy.

The 25-year-old has now taken over as Poland’s No. 1 in goal after Szczesny and may well be presented with a chance to replace the ex-Arsenal man at Barcelona as well next summer.

The fact that Bulka’s contract expires in 2026 means he will be entering the final year of his deal next summer and could be available for an affordable price, which appeals to Barça.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old is represented by Pini Zahavi, who has good relations with the Blaugrana, and his idea is for Bulka to make a move to a big club next summer.

As far as Barcelona are concerned, the idea appears to be to sign a younger replacement for Szczesny in the summer – one who can compete strongly with Ter Stegen and eventually replace him in the side.

And, Bulka is being considered as an option. Where that leaves Inaki Pena would be a major question despite Hansi Flick insisting that he has full faith in the 25-year-old.
