Barcelona are continuing to work on a new contract for Ousmane Dembélé as the Frenchman prepares to return to action.

The winger has been out since the summer after picking up a long-term injury at Euro 2020 and subsequently undergoing an operation.

It was rumoured Dembélé could be sold ahead of this season given he only had one year remaining on his contract, and indeed given the fact he hasn’t overly impressed since his arrival for more than €100million in 2017.

The injury put paid to any transfer, and Dembélé is now getting ready to return with a possibility of playing this weekend when Barcelona face Alaves at Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, contract talks have continued and without a resolution just yet.

As detailed by Mundo Deportivo, Barca want to sign Dembélé to a new deal, reluctant to lose him for free next summer.

The Blaugrana are on a mission to convince the Frenchman he is best served staying put, despite the fact he would have to take a pay cut, potentially missing out on bigger earnings elsewhere.

Dembélé appears to prefer a stay, but the deal is not closed just yet and Barca will continue their attempts for the time being.

Though, the report claims the Catalans won’t wait forever, and if they haven’t got a deal done by January, they will attempt to sell Dembélé to avoid losing him for free next summer.
