According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, after weeks of marketing troubles, Barcelona will finally wear their new second kit when they face Girona on Sunday at Montilivi.

The team will step onto the pitch wearing a black jersey, marking the fourth time in their history that the club has opted for this colour in an official kit.

It must be noted that the first time Barcelona used a black kit was during the 2011-12 season, which was also Pep Guardiola’s final year in charge. During that season, the black jersey served as their second kit and became quite popular among fans.

History of Barcelona’s black kit

Two seasons later, in the 2013-14 campaign, Barcelona brought back the black kit. However, this time it didn’t make the same impact, mainly because it was used only for away games in the Champions League and acted as the third kit, rather than the primary second kit.

The black colour made a notable return in the 2020-21 season, this time adorned with gold details. Once again, it was used as Barcelona’s second kit, adding a touch of elegance to their appearance on the field.

New kit has been worn by the women’s team

Up until now, only the Barcelona women’s team has worn the new black jersey this season. Last Sunday, they sported it during their match against Deportivo Abanca.

Looking ahead to Sunday, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side will be hoping to secure their fifth victory in La Liga when they take on Girona.

The match is expected to be a challenge, as Girona will undoubtedly put up a strong fight. However, Barcelona will aim to make this occasion special by clinching their first win of the 2024-25 season in the black kit.

The team will be eager to maintain their strong momentum and build on their early success in the campaign, with the new kit adding a fresh look to their impressive start.
