FC Barcelona drew Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, and it’s likely both teams feel that either side can advance to the semifinals. One of the veterans on the Spanish team, İlkay Gündoğan, weighed in on the matchup.
If the Catalan side wants to advance, they’ll need to rely on the veteran’s experience, especially after winning the Champions League last season with Manchester City.
Gündoğan spoke with ESPN and noted his initial thoughts about facing the Parisians. The midfielder reveals that it’s a challenge he’s willing to embrace ahead of the first leg in Paris on April 10.
“That is obviously a very tough team, a lot of individual quality,” Gündoğan told the outlet. “But I feel like this season, especially, they made a big step as a team.
“They are growing, and it’s going to be a tough challenge, a challenge that we’re going to face. But again, it’s exciting. It’s something that we should embrace, that we should enjoy, and hopefully we can transmit that into our performances.”
Fermin Lopez also discussed the two-leg matchup and what it will take to defeat the Parisians. The midfielder is eager to face the former Barcelona manager and noted the dangers that PSG present while stressing that they’ll need to be aware of where Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé are on the pitch.
