A Barcelona scout watched Getafe defender Djené this weekend, according to reports in Spain.

Barça are expected to dip into the market for a new centre-back in January after Samuel Umtiti was sent to Qatar for treatment on the knee injury.

Ajax starlet Matthijs de Ligt is understood to be their prime target, but doing a deal for the Dutchman in the winter window is likely to be extremely difficult.

On Saturday, reports in England suggested the LaLiga champions are exploring the possibility of taking either Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany or Zenit Saint Petersburg’s Branislav Ivanović on loan for the rest of the season.

And now Marca claim Blaugrana scout Ramon Planes was in attendance when Getafe took on Espanyol at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Saturday, with Togolese defender Djené his most likely target.

The 26-year-old moved to Spain from Belgian club Sint-Truidense VV in the summer of 2017 and has since made 50 appearances for Getafe.

He played the full 90 minutes as his side won 3-0 – a result which lifted them up to 7th in the LaLiga table.

Djené – full name Djené Dakonam Ortega – reportedly has a €35m release clause, and it will be interesting to see whether Planes saw enough to convince the Catalan club to splash out that kind of money in January.
