Following the financial problems they have faced for the last few years, which have kept them from getting most of their desired targets from the market, the issue of salary margin is quite high in the minds of most FC Barcelona fans.
The Blaugranes have been making gradual but consistent progress in this regard for some years now, and there is no doubt their situation now is significantly better than in the last few years.
As Diario AS has reported, the Catalans have continued on this growing trajectory as La Liga has announced the updated staff salary cap for teams in La Liga after the end of the winter transfer market.
With this update, Barcelona now have a salary cap of €463 million, i.e., €37 million higher than their salary cap in September. However, they still trail significantly behind Real Madrid, who have the highest salary cap in Spain, i.e., €754.89 million, which remains the same as in September and is €291 million higher than that of the Blaugranes.
Overall, La Liga clubs have shown an increase in their economic muscle, as the total salary cap of these clubs has risen to €2,671.9 million from €2,608 million in September, i.e., an increase of €63 million. Half of this increase corresponds with Barcelona, who sold their VIP boxes some months ago.
Along with the Catalans, 8 other teams saw their salary cap increase in this update, including Athletic Club, Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad, Valencia, Osasuna, Alaves, Real Valladolid, and Girona.
On the other hand, five teams have seen their salary cap decrease, including Espanyol, Sevilla, Real Betis, Leganes, and Las Palmas. Six other teams have seen no changes in this regard, i.e., Real Madrid, Mallorca, Villarreal, Celta Vigo, Rayo Vallecano, and Getafe.
Thus, despite being the team with the second-highest salary cap in La Liga, Barcelona still trail their main competitor Real Madrid by quite some margin, and hopefully will be able to overcome this difference in the years to come.
