According to Mundo Deportivo, Pablo Torre is determined to stay at Barcelona and earn the trust of new manager Hansi Flick, despite being on the fringes of the first team and facing enormous competition in midfield.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has reportedly told the club he wants to continue and fight for a place in Flick’s plans, even though internal belief within the team suggests that his chances are slim.

Torre, who joined Barcelona from Racing Santander in 2022, has a contract until 2026 and a €100 million release clause. Despite his limited playing time, just five starts in 14 official matches this season, he remains committed to fulfilling his contract.

Sources close to the dressing room describe Torre as a model professional who has maintained a positive attitude and shown strong camaraderie with teammates, earning praise even without regular game time.

Reality is very different

For what it is worth, the reality is stark. Barcelona’s midfield is overloaded with talent, especially in Torre’s preferred attacking role.

Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, and Gavi are all ahead of him in the pecking order, and with Flick known to favour high-intensity, tactically disciplined players, Torre will need to prove himself on multiple fronts if he wants to break through.

Despite this, the club has no intention of cutting ties completely. If Torre is not retained for next season, Barcelona will seek to retain control over his future.

What does that mean?

That means one of three options: a loan deal (with a contract extension), a permanent sale with a buy-back clause, or a long-term loan with performance-based review clauses.

Barcelona still see long-term potential in the young midfielder and do not want to lose him outright.

It must be noted that at the end of the January transfer window, FC Porto were keen on signing Torre, but that move never materialised.

Right now, interest from other clubs, including Mallorca and potentially Racing Santander if they earn promotion to La Liga, remains on the table, but no decision has been made so far.
