The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are keeping a close eye on the Portuguese market, in their ongoing search for reinforcements at centre-forward.

Deco and the Barcelona brass are more than aware that, in the near future, a new attacking spearhead will likely be required at the club.

As much comes with Robert Lewandowski set to turn 36 next month, and fresh off a season which saw many call into question the level of his performances.

The Blaugrana transfer team, in turn, have already begun looking towards the future.

Whilst this summer’s priority remains the signing of Athletic Club talisman Nico Williams, in 12 months’ time, it is considered a strong possibility that the Catalans will move for a new striker.

And front and centre on the agenda at the Camp Nou, it is understood, comes Viktor Gyökeres.

Frontman Gyökeres is for his part fresh off a remarkable debut campaign on the books of Portuguese heavyweights Sporting CP.

All told, in 50 appearances across all competitions, the 26-year-old racked up 43 goals, and 15 assists.

And, according to Diario Sport, as much did not go at all unnoticed on the part of the hierarchy at Barcelona.

In fact, ‘the sports department has seen him play several times live and the reports that there are about him are more than positive’.

A Blaugrana bid for Gyokeres in the summer of 2025 is therefore considered a real possibility, albeit with as much likely to hinge on Robert Lewandowski’s goalscoring exploits under the watch of the incoming Hansi Flick.
