Hansi Flick’s arrival at Barcelona has sparked a revival for many players who ended last season in low spirits. While Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha are prime examples, the focus here is on Alejandro Balde, who has rediscovered his best form under Flick.

It must be noted that in the 2022/23 season, Balde burst onto the scene and quickly became a key player for the first team under Xavi.

His performances were outstanding, and he established himself as the starting left-back, pushing Jordi Alba, who had been the undisputed starter for years, to the sidelines.

However, like several of his teammates, Balde’s form dipped last season. His struggles were compounded by a serious hamstring injury. The injury required surgery, which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

A strong return to action

After six months on the sidelines, Balde returned to action just in time for Barcelona’s pre-season tour in the United States. Flick wasted no time in reintegrating him into the squad.

According to SPORT, one of the key improvements under Flick has been the play on the wings, with Balde regaining his importance. Playing alongside Raphinha, Balde has once again dominated the left flank, providing relentless attacking support.

He was impressive against Athletic Club and started again against Valencia. Flick rested him against Rayo Vallecano, allowing Gerard Martin to step in.

However, Balde’s influence was needed, and he came off the bench to help Barcelona turn the game around.

Balde’s outstanding form continued against Valladolid, where he completed 95% of his passes, won four duels and completed both of his dribble attempts.

He has become a crucial part of Flick’s system, and Barcelona are reaping the benefits. Now fully fit and back to his best, he is eyeing a return to the Spanish national team.

With competition from Marc Cucurella, Alex Grimaldo, and the injured Jose Gaya, his form for Barcelona will be crucial in making his case for a call-up. For Barça, it is vital to keep Balde in peak condition to avoid any potential setbacks.
